Globally, among the 2,957 sustainability reports subject to an independent assurance, 1,668 (56%) were partially or fully verified under limited assurance, while 405 (14%) were partially or fully verified under reasonable assurance. Globally, 70% of the companies by market capitalization disclosed a GHG emission reduction target and nearly half of them set 2030 as the target year.
Financing is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) because it enables countries to invest in the infrastructure, programs, and services necessary to achieve the goals. Without sufficient financing, countries may struggle to make progress towards the SDGs. The United Nations estimates that achieving the SDGs will require an additional $2.5 trillion in annual investment until 2030. Due to misaligned incentives, both public and private actors still invest in brown activities and have not yet fully aligned their decision-making and financing with the SDGs.
The HDI is an important, if crude, yardstick for human development. Just a few years ago well-being had never been higher, poverty never lower. Yet people around the world were reporting high levels of sadness, stress, and worry. Those self-reported measures have since risen for nearly 3 billion people. And while 9 in 10 people show unwavering support for the ideal of democracy, there has been an increase in those supporting leaders who may undermine it: today, for the first time, more than half the global population supports such leaders.
Climate change and environmental degradation is a slow and cumulative process. To protect environment, the efforts also need to be cumulative and consistent. A self-centric secular worldview encourages the self-centric use of private property resources. However, even small things done collectively and consistently can have a larger effect. The two-worldly view of life in Islam encourages socially responsible behaviour as one of the prime determinants of salvage in the life hereafter. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “If the Resurrection were established upon one of you while he has in his hand a sapling, then let him plant it.” (Musnad Ahmad, Hadith No. 12491).
This study provides insights to the stakeholders of a Cash Waqf infrastructure to continue strengthening their role by understanding the embedded physical and spiritual values and benefits of their acts. It is pertinent for regulators to further encourage VBI among Islamic financial institutions, towards attaining the pure philosophical foundations of Islamic banking and finance; i.e., the principles of socio-economic justice and brotherhood.
The 2023 Global Hunger Index (GHI) shows that, after many years of advancement up to 2015, progress against hunger worldwide remains largely at a standstill. As the effects of crises multiply and intensify, more and more people are experiencing severe hunger, with the situation expected to worsen throughout the year.
We propose quantum regenerative leadership (QRL) as a new framework that integrates the insights and practices of quantum leadership and regenerative leadership. QRL proposes that effective leadership in the 21st century requires both a quantum mindset and a regenerative mindset, as well as the skills and competencies to apply them in different contexts and situations.
UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 talks about responsible consumption and production. FAO reports that one-third of the food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally, which amounts to about 1.3 billion tonnes per year.
The report recognizes the interdependence of climate, ecosystems and biodiversity, and human societies; the value of diverse forms of knowledge; and the close linkages between climate change adaptation, mitigation, ecosystem health, human well-being and sustainable development, and reflects the increasing diversity of actors involved in climate action.
This report is a call to accept transformations with the instantly needed to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. The last report was published in 2019 after that many challenges have arrived, progress has been restricted in many areas, partly as a consequence of a confluence of crises – the ongoing pandemic, rising inflation and the cost-of-living crisis, environmental and economic distress, along with regional and national unrest, conflicts, and natural disasters.
