About

A research project devoted to understanding Islamic teachings related to economics and their economic implications.

Vision

At theoretical and philosophical level, the project endeavors to explore and explain the teachings of Islam and the Islamic worldview. It will strive to understand the expected and actual impact of Islamic teachings and worldview on the values, preferences and behavior of an individual and the effect of these on the socioeconomic relations.

At the applied level, the project aims to research on institutions which are consistent with Islamic principles and teachings in order to see their economic potential to fulfill the contemporary needs of modern societies and economies.

At the analytical level, the project strives to objectively and (to the extent possible) empirically appraise the institutions – both contemporary and theoretical – with regards to their economic effects in modern societies and economies.

  1. Dear Salman:
I believe in appreciating all efforts towards ‘Riba Elimination’.Riba is “Haram” is the directive in Quran. So we have 2 options:
    1.Eliminate Riba.
    2.Dare to change ‘Quran’.
No power on earth can do this (Change Quran). So easy option was to amend the Economic System of Islam(because the State had no option of her own).
This situation arose due to Vision of Founding Fathers{Iqbal & Jinnah(rt)}.
Pakistan came into being with 2 limitations:
a)A Constitution had to be drafted to be the Social contract among People of Pakistan.
aa)As Mughal Empire fell & Khilafat in Turkey went on knees, there was no Law source. The Word of Khalifa & King ‘dissipated into wilderness.
ab) Ulema limited their role to save/guard Quran & Sunnah. There was an oath in Deoband under the ‘Pomegranate Tree’.So,Al-Ilm was centered inside,& exterior of State not being there application was not required.A very large number of Ulema gave their lives in the Process. The Raj Hangings were a proverb.
ac)Independence was only a word in dictionary of Islam.
ad)In 30s Muhammad Iqbal rose to demand Pakistan after his Lectures concluded in Alah Abad. What this Land be like:
    Under Khalifah.
    A King on Top.
    A sub-set of Raj.
He from his vision spoke of a Democratic Country,an idea not there in History of Islam.Making life possible for people through rule of Law to be drawn under a Constitution.Of Course all Norms falling within boundaries of Islam.
    (Continued).
