Reflections on Qur’an and Ethics

In extreme situations where a person’s survival is in question, Allah allows exceptions. One can use forbidden things with two conditions. The first is that there should be no desire and the second is that it should not exceed the limit. Then, it would not be morally wrong.
Allah in Qur’an says:
“He has only forbidden you (to eat) carrion, blood, swine, and what is slaughtered in the name of any other than Allah. But if someone is compelled by necessity—neither driven by desire nor exceeding immediate need—then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surah Al-Nahl 16, verse 115).

Miracles, Law of Nature, and Quran

If we delve deeper to find distinction between the laws of nature and miracles, then actually there is only one difference. The events in natural law happen regularly and the events in miracles happen sometimes. There is not much difference in the actual reality of the events in both of them, but there is a difference in the number of occurrences.

Islam And Science: Parallel Or Perpendicular

Islamic worldview does not oppose the use of various tools for obtaining useful knowledge and then using that knowledge for material ends both at an individual and societal level. When one reads Quran, Allah is again and again inviting people to ponder over their creation, environment, ecology, design, variety and balance in the organization of matter in the universe in order to decipher the meaning of life amidst all these manifestations. Question of ‘why we exist’ is the focus of Islam. Question of ‘what exists and how’ is the focus of science. Thus, Islam and science are parallel rather than perpendicular to each other.

Of the great variety of creatures which abound on the earth, the one of greatest interest to us is Man.

Image of Black Hole and What It Tells About Nature of Reality

For the first time, astronomers have captured an image of the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy, known as Sagittarius A. Is it necessary to believe in something only after we are able to physically observe it? Scientists like Prof. Stephen Hawking have accepted the fact that black holes exist even though this kind of a physical observation is possible only now. We, as humans cannot see an object which is just a mile away. Science had shown the vastness of observable universe. It will take trillions of years to get to the end of observable universe and we may still not get there as it is expanding at a faster rate.
